Approximately two years and several months ago, I was tasked with writing a memo for a class. It was a very statistic and math intensive course that dealt with management science and operation management. This memo was to be written about an article that we would find and would deal with a real world operations management issue that we would come up with. That memo is located over in the Papers section of My Works so if you have a chance, I’d encourage you to read it. It dealt with the issues over Microsoft Office 2007 and the completely revamped interface that came with it. What I explored is the issue of learning curves and whether the faster accomplishments of tasks are worth having a longer initial learning process. You can take a look at that here:
But I digress. I think the most important thing that I did was to formulate a fictitious consulting firm known as Banias/Penryn Consulting, LLC. After I made it, I realize that it was too valuable a resource to use only once. So I kept it for future use. It had since been involved in three other classes, which you can see present in many of my works here. While it is just a name and a logo, I know that words have meanings and names have power beyond measure. Names like Kleenex, Xerox, and Band-aid have achieved such prominence, that these names are used in lieu of the words describing the actual object.
Right now, I am working on a Wikipedia entry to lend some legitimacy to the company and the type of work that it does. The future is to use BPC as a vehicle for many of my future works and to put a professional image to my name. What this could achieve is something that I don’t know about right now. It could turn into a full fledged company, or it could fizzle. What I hope to show is that from a very early time in my college career, I was focused on cultivating a professional image for myself that would help me achieve great success for those who wish to take advantage of those skills. Besides, brand names are important beyond measure, as I discussed in one of my presentations.
